ABOUT US
I am Johnny Wayne Roberts; I’m 60 yrs old and have 39 years Law enforcement experience. I am a candidate for the office of Sheriff in this August election that is to fill the two years in office left by the untimely passing of Sheriff Eddie Tester.
I began my carrier in law enforcement at the age of 19 under Sheriff Frank Osborne in September of 1982. I completed the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy in 1985. I have worked under Sheriffs Frank Osborne, Roy Rash, Ed Casey, Roger Gentry, Mike Reece, and Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford.
I also held the office of Sheriff from 1994 to 1998. In 1998, Roger Gentry was elected Sheriff, and I was later hired back as a deputy sheriff by Sheriff Gentry. I resigned to run for Sheriff against Mike Reece in 2014 and lost by 97 votes. I was then hired by Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford and worked there as a School Resource Officer at Kingburg Elementary, Cloudland High school and Little Milligan Elementary.
When Eddie Tester was elected Sheriff, I transferred my employment back to Johnson County Sheriffs Department under Sheriff Eddie Tester and remain to this day.
I am the oldest son of the late James Earl Roberts and the late Doris Jean Pardue Roberts. My maternal grandparents were the late Edd Pardue and Opel Crowder Pardue. My paternal grandparents were the late William Earl Roberts and Mable Horne Roberts.
I have two sons, Brandon Craig Roberts of Boiling Springs S.C. and Weston Tyler Roberts of Trade. I have two wonderful Granddaughters Paisley Jane Roberts, age 4 ½ and Leilianna Violet Roberts, age 2yrs & 7mo.
I am from the old school where I believe that when you are elected to the office of Sheriff that you are the one people want to see, you are the one they elected. People of all walks of life at one time or another will have issues that they need advice and help with, and as Sheriff, you are who they want to speak with. And everyone, rich or poor, black or white deserve your same attention and help. Sometimes you can help and sometimes you need to direct them onto someone else.
Being Sheriff isn’t about just locking up the bad and enforcing the laws, Its being a good neighbor and caring about people and helping in ways that just isn’t in a text book, but is lead by a heart for people.
I have received a vast amount of training over my 39 yrs in various fields of law enforcement, from DUI Enforcement to Death and Homicide Investigation, to Narcotics and Dangerous Drug Enforcement.
I have a vast amount of experience and training and want to be able to make a difference in our county, and have a department that the people of Johnson County can Trust and have confidence in. I know as Sheriff I can have that kind of department, And will be a Sheriff you can come to with any problem at any time, and regardless of your standing in the community, you will know that you matter and I will do whatever I can to help you.
My Qualifications for Sheriff
The Office of Sheriff is a job of great responsibility. I have the training and experience to carry out the job of Sheriff and will give the position my 100%. Working together with the Mayor and County Commissioners is a must. Working together will meet goals that must be met. Sheriff Eddie Tester had established good working relationships with the Police Department, surrounding county sheriffs departments, our County Commissioners and County Mayor. I intend to continue these relationships if elected.
